Skanska USA Building
The 740,000 square foot, 20-story eco-friendly building includes two living green walls, a 50,000 square foot rooftop terrace, electric car charging stations in its parking garage, and a built-in water conservation system. At 309 feet tall, the Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed building spans two city blocks along Broad Street.
Skanska USA, the general contractor on the project, contracted Let It Grow, Inc. to perform the landscape, hardscape and irrigation work on rooftop terrace as well as the ground level plaza and streetscape.
The rooftop work consisted of structural foam build up, 6,000 sq.ft. IPE wood boardwalk deck, exposed aggregate concrete walkways, asphalt running track, paver patio, lightweight topsoil, planting beds with trees and shrubs, and full rooftop irrigation system. Massive amounts of structural foam build up was laid and cut to size on top of the roof slab in order to achieve grade changes in both the hardscape and landscape areas. Let It Grow also supplied numerous value-engineering ideas to the owner in an effort to minimize cost, while maximizing function and beauty.
The plaza and streetscape work included plantings, irrigation, tree grates, and site furnishings. Lastly, Let It Grow, Inc. installed two large living green walls on opposite sides of the face of the parking deck.
